The Student Government Executive Officer Selection Process
Following verification of all qualifications, the applicants who are approved will move forward to an individual interview.
The interviews will take place February 4th, 5th, and 7th.
Committees administering the individual interviews will be specific to each position and will consist of the following:
Director for Student Engagement: Dannah Stelting
Associate Vice President for Student Life: Marian Redwine
All current outgoing Senior SGA Executive Officers
2-3 staff/faculty representatives applicable to each of the positions will be in those interviews. (these will be different for each position. Example: A representative from the Office of Spiritual Life will help with the Campus Ministries interviews, a rep from the Student Advisory Athletic Council will be asked to help with the Athletic Relations interviews, etc.)
2-3 outgoing senior representatives
After the interviews, UP TO 2 candidates will be chosen and moved on to an election where the student body has the final say. The hiring committees will be scoring interviews on a rubric, and there will be a threshold number each candidate must meet to be considered for the election. If there is only 1 qualified candidate for the position, we will send that 1 candidate on, and it will be a "yes" or "no" vote. In order to be offered the position, that candidate will then have to receive at least 60% of the yes votes.
NOTE: The Finance and Publicity candidates will not be moving on to the election process. These two Executive Officers have more skilled positions and will be hired and announced when the rest of the Executive team is elected and published.
On February 21st there will be an Election Chapel. Candidates will have videoed a 4-5 minute speech that will be played in the Election Chapel.
After Election Chapel, a Candidate Fair will be held in the Webster Commons. This is a chance for the student body to talk to each candidate and ask any questions.
Once the Candidate Fair ends, the ballot will be sent out. Seniors will not be able to cast a vote, considering that they will not be here when the next Executive Officers serve as SGA’s representatives.
The SGA Executive Team will be announced on February 22nd.
